Hoy hemos publicado el primer borrador público de M3Di.
Noticia en inglés a continuación:
Dear all,
this is the first official communication of M3Di (3D Metadata Initiative) to all the enterprises and individuals who expressed their interest in the initiative.
First of all, thanks for your patience, and we apologize for the delay of this first official communication.
It’s been a long time of silence since October 2010, when we incubated the idea as a result of the standardization activities of the 2020 3D Media European research project. In the last two years, Mediapro (and its partners) has setup a 3D pipeline and has successfully produced 20 live 3D productions. Our experience at times has been very frustrating because of the incompatibilities between commercial systems and other limitations of proprietary solutions. This proposal is aimed at reducing or eliminating these frustrations and its goal is to facilitate the growth of the whole 3D industry.
In this draft we present an overview on what M3Di covers and the issues it wants to solve. This document also elaborates on why we think it is a necessary initiative.
There is also an initial proposal of metadata items in the form of a table. This metadata mapping is still in a preliminary development phase, but it is important to publish it now in order to get a broad feedback from you and use your feedback to complete it thoroughly.
M3Di is a nonprofit initiative. The beneficiaries of having a successful proposal will be the 3D industry as a whole; the professionals, the producers and the enterprises that develop tools, content and services related to stereoscopic imagery. We plan to use a Creative Commons type of license.
Success would mean M3Di would become industry de facto standard, exchangeable parts in a 3D workflow, and hopefully it will be adopted not just by the industry, but by a standards organization which would be in charge of improving and maintaining it.
So at this point in time, we invite you to read our first draft (attached) and contribute with your comments. Please send them to MEMBERS email. We obviously accept criticisms, but we prefer constructive criticism, i.e. offering solutions and alternatives to the detected issues.
If you believe that other companies should join the initiative, please forward them this email, the draft documents, the website link http://www.m3di.org, tell them to contact us and encourage them to join the initiative.
We hope this first draft motivates you enough to give us feedback and spread the word among the industry. Let’s make this industry advance faster without being tied to proprietary solutions and give more financial and creative options to the professionals involved in the success of the 3D industry.
We are open to contributions from those willing to help.
Looking forward to hear from you very soon,
Werner Bailer (JOANNEUM RESEARCH), Ralf Tanger (Fraunhofer HHI), Jordi Alonso (Mediapro Research)
